The 1989 Mw 6.9, Ms 7.1, Loma Prieta, California Earthquake data recorded by the USGS National Strong-Motion Network (NSMN) are available via the NSMP ftp server in the folder (directory) "891018_1". Data from 49 SMA-1 (3 channels) and 7 CRA-1 (11-13 channels) recorders can be downloaded. The data are available in uncorrected or corrected form. The following corrected data are provided: corrected acceleration (vol 2), corrected velocity (vol 3), corrected displacement (vol 4), and response spectra (vol 5). Each time series is stored as an uncompressed file by recorder serial number followed by a letter which corresponds to the channel number (e.g. the filename 0111b.smc corresponds to the time series for channel two on recorder 0111). The same filename is used for the uncorrected and corrected versions of the data; consequently, download uncorrected and corrected data files to different directories. The entire uncompressed data set takes up approximately 186 Mbytes (Mb) of disk space.

CRA-1 data are structured the same as SMA-1 data but are under the path "891018_1/cra-1/".

To facilitate downloading the data, several subsets of the data have been compressed into PC compatible ".zip" format. These same zip files are located in the "zips" folder in "891018_1/sma-1/zips" and "891018_1/cra-1/zips" on the NSMP ftp server. The time-series (smc) data files were replaced on July 17, 2002 with a new version that corrected a UNIX versus DOS carriage-return format problem. The time series are unchanged. The extension on the response spectra file names (vol_5) were changed from ".smc" to ".rs2" to agree with current conventions.
