U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY DIGITAL DATA SERIES DDS-7 DIGITIZED STRONG-MOTION ACCELEROGRAMS OF NORTH AMERICAN EARTHQUAKES 1933 - 1986 README.1ST FILE The DSMA CD-ROM (Compact Disc-Read Only Memory) has been produced in accordance with the ISO 9660 CD-ROM Standard and is therefore capable of being read on any computing platform that has appropriate CD-ROM driver software installed. However, the access software used on the DSMA disc (called ACATALOG) currently executes only under DOS on IBM or compatible personal computers. The structure of the DSMA data on the disc is very SIMPLE. All data files are delimited ASCII. Several DOS subdirectories are contained on the DSMA CD-ROM. Their names and the information they contain are listed below: \DOCFILES - This subdirectory contains the ASCII document files for the DSMA CD-ROM. These files include: AUTHORS.DOC - This file lists the authors of this Digital Data Series CD-ROM. ACKNOWL.DOC - This file provides acknowledgments of the producers of this CD-ROM disc as well as of the sources of the data contained on this disc. CONTACTS.DOC - This file provides a list of contacts for additional information on this CD-ROM, the U.S. Geological Survey's CD-ROM Support Center, and the data contained on this disc. DISCLAIM.DOC - This file contains the Government's disclaimer for this CD-ROM. OVERVIEW.DOC - This file provides a brief overview of the data and software contained on this CD-ROM, including the type and extent of data coverage. REFERENC.DOC - This file cites the references used in the production of this CD-ROM. REGISTER.DOC - This file contains a registration form by which a user can elect to receive announcements of new CD- ROM releases and of updates to previous releases. This form also provides a vehicle for suggestions and feedback to the USGS on the current disc. 1 TECHINFO.DOC - This file provides in-depth technical information on the data contained on the disc. Detailed information on data collection methods and procedures is also included. Individual data elements are defined and coded values are explained. GETSTART.DOC - This file contains a step-by-step explanation of the use of the ACATALOG access software. Once this brief tutorial exercise has been completed, the user should have a good working knowledge of how to select, display, and output data from this CD-ROM. \DOSMENU - This subdirectory contains all the software required to support the menu system used when running under a DOS system. This menu system is typically invoked by issuing the command 'DSMA' from the user's root directory. \SOFTWARE - This subdirectory contains the executable version of the ACATALOG software and index files.
